About the course Adhesive operator EAB

This course is conducted in collaboration with the Adhesive Academy and leads to becoming a skilled adhesive operator with the European recognized diploma NIL-EWF 515-1 EAB. Upon completion, you will have a fundamental understanding of adhesive technology. This includes grasping the unique aspects of the adhesive process and knowing how to consider them during adhesive operations. You will also gain a clear understanding of the relevant connections and the importance of work instructions.

You conclude this course with an exam, which is administered by the NIL (Netherlands Institute for Welding Technology). This exam holds European approval through the European Welding Federation (EWF). Passing the exam entitles you to an EWF diploma with the title European Adhesive Bonder. After obtaining the diploma, you are authorized and capable of:

• Independently performing adhesive operations based on written work instructions
• Contributing to quality assurance in the adhesive process
• Recognizing deviations and knowing how to handle them

You also have certain authorities as clearly defined in the DIN 6701 standard.

Diploma

The training is completed with a practical, written, and oral exam. A prerequisite for participating in the exam is reasonable attendance on the training days.

Basic concepts

The course starts with the treatment of basic concepts in adhesive technology. Adhesive bonding is compared to other joining techniques. The integrity of an adhesive bond is explained using the conceptual model of bonding forces. Similarly, explanation is provided regarding the influencing factors on the quality of the adhesive bond. You will build knowledge about the fundamental aspects of adhesive properties and adhesive bonds.

Types of adhesives

In this part of the course, you will be introduced to the most important types of adhesives used in the industry, as well as their properties and application areas. The emphasis is placed on the importance of applying different types of adhesives correctly and under the right curing conditions. These aspects are further supported through practical exercises.

Surface treatment

An appropriate surface treatment is of the utmost importance for a good and particularly durable adhesive bond. You will become acquainted with surface techniques commonly performed by professionals as part of the adhesive bonding process. Practical experiments will give you the necessary experience in applying adhesive techniques to different materials/adhesive parts. Special attention will be given to the use of primers and adhesion promoters.

Measurement methods

During the practical sessions, adhesive test pieces will be made, which will then be tested by you using standard testing equipment. Evaluation of the bond strength and failure behavior will help you develop a sense of possible errors in the adhesive process and their consequences. This information serves as an important complement to the theory.

Production techniques

You will receive an introduction to the fundamental aspects of both manual and automated adhesive processes in a production environment. You will also learn to recognize and prevent causes of errors.

Health and safety

You will learn the principles of recognizing potential hazards when working with adhesives and solvents in industrial adhesive processes. The importance of using personal protective equipment (PPE) will be emphasized.
